The New York Transit Museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 10am until 4pm and Saturday and Sunday from 12pm until 5pm. The museum is closed on Mondays and major holidays.

The museum is dedicated to the history and evolution of New York City's harbor defenses, beginning with the construction of the earliest earthen forts and concluding with the Nike missile era. Programs and Services: Temporary exhibits, periodic lectures and presentations, classroom facilities (seating 30), reference library and archives (by appointment only), school and group tours welcome (reservations required).
